Summer 2009
Vitals: Communicative Disorders, Spanish (double major)
Goals: I want to become a more confident Spanish speaker. I’m excited to immerse myself in another culture for a month and do and see things I can’t in the U.S.!
Motivation: I’ve always wanted to travel to see what life is like in other countries and to meet new people. Being abroad by myself will push me to become more independent and adventurous, and it’ll prepare me for all kinds of encounters I’ll have in the future. I’ve only heard good things about study abroad experiences and am really excited to start mine!
Previous overseas travel: No overseas travel; the only country outside of the U.S. that I’ve been to is Canada

Vitals: Senior Graphic Design Major with emphases in Creative Writing and Advertising
Goals: I want to learn more about Irish culture, including views overseas about Americans. I also hope to make as many lasting memories as I can by traveling, meeting new people, and taking advantage of every opportunity available, no matter how small.
Motivation: Studying abroad has always been on “my list of things to do”. I talked about it with my parents while touring colleges as a senior in high school. Before I knew it, I was a senior in college and had never traveled overseas. I didn’t want to graduate not taking advantage of studying abroad. Since I couldn’t find an internship this summer, I decided it was the perfect time to go!
Previous Overseas Travel: None-only time out of US was to Mexico

Vitals: Journalism and Mass Communication, graduating spring 2010
Goals: Gain an appreciation for the differences in workplace norms in Europe compared to in the United States, and to tour the great city of London.
Motivation: I thought that visiting another country that speaks English, as that is the only language I know, would give me the greatest chance to experience another culture. Also, as a student nearing graduation, I wanted to gain valuable work experience during my travels.
Previous Overseas Travel: I have vacationed in Mexico and various Caribbean islands. I have also been to Israel, Poland, Belgium, Holland, and London, although the last time I was in London I was 10 years old so I am looking forward to a completely new experience.

Vitals: Majors: Chinese, History, French. Graduating May 2010
Goals: I am really looking toward developing my Chinese abilities. I also want to explore more of China and possibly make some TESOL contacts for when I graduate.
Motivation: I firmly believe immersing yourself in a language is the only way to really acquire it. Also, the Tianjin program provides lots of credits and makes it possible for me to add a French major. My time in Tianjin last year was incredible; I learned so much more than a year’s worth of the language, and learned even more about the people. This summer is going to be great and I’m looking forward to an even more in-depth experience.
Previous overseas travel: China, France, Guatemala, Spain, Gibraltar, Italy, Cayman Islands, Curacao

Vitals: Junior, Double majoring in computer science and math
Goals: This program will definitely help me better understand my own cultural values and biases. I also look forward to the fact that it is going to influence my interactions with people from different cultures.
Motivation: I wanted to reconnect myself with the Indian culture and its heritage as my parents were born there. Since Pune is called the Oxford of the East, I thought that it would be the ideal destination for my endeavors.
Previous overseas travel: India, Canada, Singapore
