It’s been just about six weeks since I began my journey in Florence and it really has flown by! Part of me feels like I just got here and part of me feels like I’ve been here my whole life. It’s crazy how quickly this foreign place became my new home.
I’ve loved spending time in Florence and exploring so many of the beautiful places this town has to offer, but I also have been lucky enough to travel on the weekends and visit some pretty amazing places!
For our first free weekend abroad we decided to take it slow and start off somewhere in Italy. We took a short train ride to Venice and it was beautiful! Although the weather wasn’t great, nothing could take away from the magic of Venice. And we also went during Carnevale, which was truly one of the coolest experiences of my life! There were so many people dressed up in masks and costumes and it really was amazing to see.
My first big weekend trip was to Prague, Czech Republic the following week. Prague had always been on my list of places I wanted to go, so I finally got to check it off the list! It truly did not disappoint. I was surprised at how big the city felt compared to Florence, but the history, culture, and beauty of the city really took my breath away. The difference in cuisine was also a nice change of pace from my pizza/pasta/gelato grind back in Italy! Who knew schnitzel could taste so good?!
The following weekend I ventured off to Barcelona to visit one of my best friends from home. It was my first time flying by myself so I was a little nervous but everything went smoothly. It’s nice that the Florence airport is so small and easy to navigate! Barcelona was awesome and what was even more awesome was the weather! It was so nice to feel the warmth of the sunshine while sitting on the beach. The highlight of my weekend was definitely seeing La Sagrada Familia. There are no words to describe how beautiful it is. It definitely was another bucket list item!
Last weekend I traveled to Rome through a school trip. Although I have been to Rome before, it was cool to see all of the sites again through a new lens! We also had great tour guides throughout the entire weekend, who gave new and informative insights into the beautiful city of Rome. It was also amazing visiting the Vatican again and really getting to soak it all in.
I am so grateful to have been able to visit all of these amazing places during my time abroad and I can’t wait to see what else my time here has in store! It really is crazy how easy it is to get to a new place in such a short amount of time. I’m definitely trying to appreciate every moment of my abroad experience!
Until next time!
