the aros museum

After our first week of classes officially finished, Emma, Marissa and I decided to be tourists in our own city. There really is a lot to see, and I’m looking forward to exploring Aarhus throughout my time here.

Last Saturday, we went to Aros Art Museum. This museum is one of the most popular buildings in Aarhus. Known for its rainbow-colored panoramic views of the city, Aros attracts tourists from all over. I was excited to experience it myself.

Spending the day at Aros probably tops the list for some of my favorite times in Aarhus so far. The museum has 10 floors, a café and even some study areas. I decided to get a student membership that allows me free entrance to the museum for a year, discounts at the café and invites to special events hosted by Aros.

I’d never been to an art museum and wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed walking through each of the exhibits and learning the reasoning behind each one.

I especially loved the atmosphere of the entire museum. There were so many things to look at: amazing sculptures, photography, paintings and pieces of artwork on display. Your eyes will never get tired of seeing everything.

We ate breakfast at the café, and spent the rest of the day wondering through each of the floors, but we had the most fun at the very top of the building in the rooftop walkway titled ‘Your Rainbow Panorama.’ I’d heard so much about it and was so excited that it lived up to every one of my expectations. We got 360 views of the city in a circular glass walkway filled with the colors of the rainbow.

The views were breathtaking and each of the colors provided an entirely different way to see the city.

I even brought my camera along to take some pictures. We lost track of time as we moved through all the colors. We took in the views, posed for silly pictures, and probably laughed way too loudly. I think it was the most fun I’ve had since I’ve been here.

I would definitely recommend the Aros Museum to anyone that has the opportunity to go, even if it’s something you wouldn’t normally do. The museum is one of a kind, and the views from the top alone are worth it.

I’m hoping to go back soon, even just to study, as it will always be a place where I made really great memories.
