Describe your internship, research, or fieldwork and how the experience helped advance your career or studies.

My internship at Save the Children helped to advance my career because I was able to meet with other professionals in and around the government. These meetings exposed me to many nonprofits, alliance members, stakeholders, government agencies, and Hill staffers.

This exposure helped me understand what different roles at these organizations look like.

What did you learn about yourself or the world because of your experience?

Because of my experience in Washington, DC, I learned that I would like to live and work here after graduation. I enjoyed getting to know the city and all of its different neighborhoods. This information will be immensely helpful when I am trying to find an apartment.

What is your advice for someone considering your program?

For someone considering the Wisconsin in Washington Program, I would advise them to not be afraid to reach out to alumni. As soon as I got to DC, an emphasis on utilizing the alumni network was made. I did not know this beforehand and wished I would have reached out while applying to internships.
