Never Thought I’d Call It Home

After a two week long journey to Innter Mongolia, Gansu, and Xinjiang, and going directly from the train station to a Christmas Even dinner at my friend Gabi’s amazing house I got back to my dorm around 2:30 a.m., got in bed, and slept for about 14 hours.  When I woke up it was Christmas Eve in Wisconsin so I Skyped with my parents and told them all my crazy stories… needless to say they were amazed while also being disturbed.  It felt really weird to talk with them and not be at home.  Since China doesn’t celebrate Christmas to the same extent American’s do all of the shops and things were still open so I went to buy new cell phone number four, a Newsweek, and some Xiaolongbao.  I brought all my goodies back to the empty dorm and feasted, rested, and read.  There is nothing quite like being in your own room on your own actual bed after spending 31 hours on a train.  My friend, Angie, and I are planning on going to Harbin in Heilongjiang province for their Ice and Snow Festival but my passport is being held while my new visa is being processed… so we will see if I can buy the train tickets!  Other than that, I’m just counting down the days until the Bechtol family hits up Beijing!
