Pura Vida

When do you leave?  How long will you be gone?  What will you be doing there?  Have you started packing yet?  Are you excited?  Nervous?  Okay, so all the questions from everybody can get to be slightly annoying, but I guess they’re all just excited that I have this opportunity to go on such an amazing adventure.  After answering these questions so many times, it’s beginning to become real.  In 11 days, I’ll be waking up in a different country and experiencing things that most people will never in their entire life have the opportunity to experience.

To be entirely honest, I haven’t started packing yet.  I’m making mental notes of what I will and will not bring.  For example, when I got my immunizations, the doctor emphasized that I bring bug spray since mosquito season there is year round and lots of things can be transmitted via bug bite.  Also, during the day, it’s often in the 80’s, but at night it cools down quite a bit, so sunscreen and layers are a must.

After talking with people who have previously been to Costa Rica and doing some research, I’ve heard that a common phrase there is, “Pura vida.”  It means “pure life” and is a reflection of how the lifestyle in Costa Rica is much more relaxed and slow.  I’m looking forward to escaping the stresses of the fast pace American ways for a few weeks.
