How were your program academics similar or different from taking classes at UW-Madison?

My program academics were very similar to taking classes as UW-Madison. The rigor of the classes matched that of a UW-Madison class, although there were not daily assignments as you would often find in a class at Madison. The academics were based off of one or two tests as well as a possible paper or larger assignment – based off the course load. I had taken a psychology course and two STEM based courses and found that there was less demand for daily work but a much larger demand for high quality comprehensive work.

I learned that so many other students, abroad or not, feel the same way you do. There will always be someone willing to talk with you, laugh with you, and cry with you if you need. I really leaned into other students in my first few weeks and those students ended up becoming some of my closest friends from my program!

What did you learn about yourself or the world because of your experience?

I learned so much about myself and the world during my abroad experience. I learned to become more independent and outgoing as I would bring myself out of my comfort zone to try new things. I learned that as many differences that there are country to country there are also so many similarities. It was so interesting to hear the similarities and differences of the human experience throughout the world. Most people are very eager to share their stories and experiences with you, all you have to do is ask!

What is your advice for someone considering your program?

Truly make the best of your experience and put yourself out there to be open to try anything! In my experience the University had offered so many free activities (especially in the first week or two of the term). So many people are eager to meet you and introduce you to Bristol! It truly is a city with everything and there are so many opportunities for exploration if you keep an open mind and an eager heart!
