Italy: Pyper Scullen (Final Reflections)

As this program comes to an end, my final thoughts are rooted in gratitude. I am so grateful for the past few months as they are the best of my life thus far. I have seen so much of the world in such a short amount of time: I saw the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, Michelangelo’s “David” in Florence, had high tea with friends in London, enjoyed a canal cruise in Amsterdam, toured the moonlit colosseum in Rome, attended Oktoberfest in Munich, etc.

Not only have the weekend trips been incredible but also the experiences that I have had on a daily basis studying in Florence. I will cherish the quiet mornings that I had with a cappuccino and my laptop in various Italian cafes and the nights out with friends enjoying traditional pasta at some of the best restaurants in the world. My classes were instructed by professors well versed in Italian fashion and culture and this experience will have an invaluable effect on my future designs and career. Above all else, the people that I have met through this experience are what I will remember and cherish forever. I was fortunate enough to be slotted with four amazing roommates who I will stay in touch with for years to come. I also met so many wonderful, like-minded people in classes who shared my passion for fashion and provided another platform to learn from. While currently finishing up final projects and packing for my final trip to Scotland and Ireland, I am proud of everything that I have gotten out of this irreplaceable experience and greatly appreciative for everything and everyone that played a part in making it happen.

I am extremely excited about the course offerings via this program and the technique and skill that I will gain from taking classes including patternmaking and fashion illustration. I am also excited to learn about Italian history and culture as I believe that history and the world offers incredible inspiration for design. Lastly, this program offers the opportunity to attend Milan Fashion Week which is an amazingly unique opportunity for insight into the interworking’s of the fashion industry – an industry that I am working to have an important place in and impact on.
