Denmark: Lily Reback (Final Reflections)

This is a picture of my best friends in Copenhagen!

As I look back on my experience studying abroad in Denmark, my fondest memories are of the friends I made here. I was sort of nervous about moving abroad because I am such an introverted, quiet person and I thought it might be challenging to make friends. It seems like most of the people who decide to study abroad are extroverted and outgoing and the type of people to make friends easily. The first few weeks were a little scary but everyone that I have met in the DIS program are incredibly kind and friendly people. I formed a really close friend group after the first few weeks, and it was really neat being able to fully experience Copenhagen together and make so many lasting memories. Some of my favorite memories include going to an Alex G concert at VEGA, having Valentine’s Day party with homemade baked goods, and riding all the rides at Tivoli. I am going to miss my friends so much but now I have a reason to visit San Antonio, New York City, Boston, and Claremont. It is bittersweet thinking about how we have less than a month left here because I miss so much back in Madison, but it will be so hard to leave behind the life I have built in Copenhagen.

Danish culture has always been super fascinating to me and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to live in Copenhagen for four whole months. The Danish word Hygge, which basically means comfort or coziness, is a large part of Scandinavian living and I’m super excited to experience it. I’ve met so many Danish exchange students living in Madison right now and everyone is so kind and friendly and I can’t wait to connect with them again once we’re both in Denmark.
