What is your most memorable experience from your program?
The most memorable experience was being able to do hands-on work. Snorkeling and applying the information that I was learning to lecture to the things that I was seeing while snorkeling. Furthermore, doing the small independent project was a good way to have an introduction to research. It was great to build my own project and go through the steps to complete it.
This experience helped me narrow down my interests for my future.
What did you learn about yourself or the world because of your experience?
One thing I learned about myself and part of the reason I wanted to do this experience was to find out what I was interested in. I found marine biology very interesting, and it could be something that I do in the future. One thing I learned for sure is that I want to do more fieldwork and get to see new things. I really liked snorkeling and taking what we learned and applying it. So this experience helped me narrow down my interests to fieldwork and to working in nature and learning more about the environment.
How will your experience benefit you in the future? How might it affect your future career or studies?
This experience helped me narrow down my interests for my future. I really enjoyed marine biology and spending time in nature. I also really liked research, which I had not considered before. For my future, I would love to join a research lab on campus to continue to try different fields of biology. Marine biology was very interesting and new to me, but I think this experience has taught me to try new things. During this experience, I had so much fun meeting new people and learning new things, and I am so excited to do this again for graduate school or doing another study abroad program.
