University of Wisconsin–Madison

Norway: Josalin Kumm (Our global classroom)

NTNU’s setup is quite similar to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but there’s a cool twist in our class schedule. We have classes just once a week, but they last for two to three hours, with breaks in between. During those breaks, we usually head over to the SIT canteens to grab some lunch or chill at a café, enjoying pastries and coffee. It’s not just about refueling but also a chance to socialize and network with other students.

“Welcome to EGGS”

One of the highlights has been my Design Thinking class’s field trips to design firms in the Trondheim area. It’s been a blast getting a peek into how Norwegian offices run and checking out local companies. We visited two cool places, EGG and Inventas, each with its unique vibe.

Inventas is all about modern offices, comfy ergonomic chairs, and they even have popcorn machines! It’s a creative space, and they’re big on hardware design and physical products.

On the other hand, EGGS is all about software and project management. What’s neat is that they have an more international crew, and the main language there is English. Plus, our guide was a former Design Thinking student, an international student, and a former intern at EGGS. This is very similar to the background to myself and some of the other Design Thinking students. Their office is also in a renovated church, which is pretty cool.

Speaking of international students, it’s awesome to know that they can find job opportunities in Norway. This place seems like a solid choice for long-term career prospects in product design and technology.

I’m loving the experiences I’m getting here. My education is definitely broadening my horizons, both academically and professionally
