Food in London

One of my favorite things about London is the different types of food. In my hometown, the only options are Chinese or Mexican. Here, there are hundreds of different types of foods offered everywhere I turn. I love to go to Borough Market and try new things, or go to a restaurant for cuisine I’ve never had before. Since coming to London, I’ve tried Thai, Lebanese, Greek, Jamaican, Cypriot, Korean, Palestinian, Indian, and Nigerian food, to name a few, and I’m very excited to try even more over the next few months. My personal favorite item from the different types of cuisines I’ve tried is either jerk chicken from Brixton Market or halloumi fries from Borough Market. Beyond different countries’ cuisines, I’ve also just branched out and tried new foods. I’ve never been a fan of seafood, but I recently challenged myself and ordered a dish with different types of fish.
Thanks to my Food and Society class, I have the opportunity to learn more about the food scene in London and throughout all of Britain. In the class, I’ve had the chance to try British delicacies like Christmas Pudding and, unfortunately, beans on toast. It’s also, surprisingly, converted me into a tea drinker. Morning and evening tea is now a part of my daily routine, a fact my family relentlessly laughs at me for. This class, in addition to introducing me to the delightful liquid that is tea, has expanded my knowledge of the significance of the different types of cuisines throughout London, and I’m eager to learn throughout the next few weeks.
