Top Five List: London

Thinking back over my time in London I came up with five things I did that left a lasting impression on me. All of which I would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat. Starting with the one that I think about at least weekly is Utter Waffle an entirely gluten-free restaurant. I discovered this as I was scouring the internet for a place to eat on Andrea’s birthday as she is gluten-free. I didn’t have high hopes when we sat down to eat, as I’d yet to have good gluten-free food. However, all nine of us including myself were blown away and went back for another birthday last week.

Epping Forest–Connaught water

Another favorite is Epping Forest and by proxy Connaught Water. While it’s a bit of a trek from London, this forest is beyond worth it. Every turn is absolutely stunning, and on my second visit, I stumbled upon Connaught water. This reminded me of Kensington Gardens, but truly serene and arguably more beautiful.

Hampton Court Palace

Continuing with a royal theme I visited Hampton Court Palace with Emmie. This was by far my favorite Palace I’ve been to, for one primary reason. All of their rooms are in great condition, and instead of leaving them bare, they recreated what they would have looked like from furniture to wall decor. This left me with the feeling of actually being in a working castle, or as close as I could be to that. Additionally, the gardens were absolutely stunning with a hedge maze Emmie and I went into.

Brixton Village

Going in a different direction I loved Brixton Village Market. There were so many independent shops and restaurants. Not to mention the market was a colorful maze with something new at every turn. I found a cute leather handbag I had been searching for, and I tried some amazing Jamaican food.

Only lights of storefronts and the London Eye are visible at night.

Last but not least, I recommend visiting Winter Wonderland at least once. While this one can be incredibly crowded and is a massive tourist stop I do believe it is worth the experience. This carnival is just massive with themed villages inside, and a multitude of rides.

My favorite was the ice mountain ride, however, be warned it will violently whip you around. For a calmer and equally fun activity, I encourage the ice slide!
