Karyme Ruiz

Major: International Studies

Hometown: Madison, Wisconsin

Program: South Korea – Korea University Exchange

Being a recipient of the Global Gateway Fellowship means that I can focus on the program without concerns for other factors. I can engage better with the culture I will be surrounded by as well as enjoy the program to the fullest extent.

One goal I have is to practice my Korean language skills while abroad. I took a few Korean classes but feel like I need to practice a lot more. Immersing myself with the language will help me a lot when it comes to comprehension. I look forward to learning more about what everyday life is like in Seoul. I can’t wait to see all the historical locations in Seoul like the Gyeongbokgung Palace.
