Caroline: Final Reflections

There is so much that I can say from this beautiful experience that it would be difficult to compile in only 200 words. But, alas, I must. Coming on this program, back in May, I was not sure what to expect. One thing that I enjoyed so much about DC was how you could find a piece of history on every corner. It seemed like almost any home, restaurant, or building had a bit of history attached to it, stretching back years. Everywhere I turned, there was always something to learn about and explore. The museums I loved the most were covered in history and science; I learned things I never could have learned back at home. I remember being in the American History Museum and walking through the Hall of Presidents. The Hall was scattered with items pertaining to the presidents and their First Ladies, whether that be clothes, video footage, photographs, or important documents. It was truly a sight to see and my only way of time traveling.

Though, to summarize it all, it was the people on this experience that made it so worthwhile. I never realized how quickly I could bond with one person or more. It was this opportunity that taught me how supportive and kind people can be towards one another. I remember, it was about the 4th day of this experience, a few students and I decided to dress up and go out to dinner. It was the first time I felt free to be myself in a city foreign to me. We ended up at a restaurant called The Smith. I was liberated for the first time with these new friends I had made in this entirely new city, discovering everything on our own for the first time and it was beautiful. That was my favorite memory.
