How were your program academics similar or different from taking classes at UW-Madison?
The program was a lot different from taking classes at UW-Madison in the way that we were hardly ever in a classroom setting, but rather out learning hands-on, which I really enjoyed! We got the opportunity to research the people and places we would be visiting prior to going so that we were prepared to ask questions of interest. It was very beneficial to see beyond the picture displayed.
I learned so many lessons from this program, both about myself and community.
What did you learn about yourself or the world because of your experience?
I learned so much about myself and the world from this experience. I gained a whole new sense of self-understanding by finding myself thrive in this new environment, excited and ready to learn about the realities of people on the other side of the world as us. It was a lot of fun to take on a new city and meet new people both from the U.S. and from Australia. Aside from a few details, they live their lives very similar to back home which was so much fun to see.

How will your experience benefit you in the future?
I learned so many lessons from this program, both about myself and community. I found personal strengths that have helped build my own courage in this world and also gained a new sense of confidence in being aware of others. I may not be able to control the situations of other people, but I can do my best to try to help.
What is your advice for someone considering your program?
I would truly recommend this program! Aside from the academics, there is so much to explore around Sydney! Definitely bring your walking shoes and extend your travel if possible!
