Routine

A lake with ducks sits behind a grassy field with trees. In the background is a tower with a very pointed spire.

Canberra is primarily considered Australia’s political hub; however, I have managed to find solace in scenic environments with a captivating view of Black Mountain, Sullivans Creek, and the Telstra Tower. With a beautiful view of birch trees, open skies, and a gorgeous body of water, I have ensured that I frequently take time to sit and enjoy Canberra from such a beautiful spot. As I bask in all its magnificence, I am able to unwind, interact with nature, and view other students pass by on their way to class. Making this place part of my daily routine has truly cemented Canberra as a place with a more to offer than political significance, but a mindful pace of life.

Favorite Place

the ANU stainless-steel sphere by Wolfgang Buttress

One of my favorite places in Canberra so far is the chrome sphere sculpture designed by artist Wolfgang Buttress. The four-meter stainless steel sphere, titled “UNA”, is an eye-catching piece of art that stands between the Linnaeus and College of Science Teaching Building on the Australian National University Campus. The striking sphere somehow becomes part of the landscape while creating interesting visual effects and playing with light. I really like how it manages to incorporate the university’s fondness of contemporary culture while also reminding me of “The Bean” in Chicago, an iconic landmark in the states. This makes the piece memorable and truly one of my favorite places in Canberra.

Being a recipient of the Global Gateway Fellowship allows me to broaden my array of collegiate and cultural information and strengthen my position in society as a leader within the retail industry. Having the opportunity to study abroad as a fellowship recipient will aid in fostering and participating in constructive conversations with my peers while also making connections to real-world issues in an international setting.

I am eager to work with professionals and students from different backgrounds and gain insight from their experiences. Having the option to broaden my understanding of international consumer behavior and marketplace studies will be invaluable to my future professional endeavors. I am excited to explore Australia’s unique landscape and immersing myself in such a fascinating culture. Culture is an important aspect of every country and understanding the Australian culture and Aboriginal history is a subject I am very interested in as I continue my academic journey.
