When I reflect on the activities I have done over this past month in Washington D.C., the United States Botanic Garden sticks out as one of my favorites. I am in Washington D.C. for the fall semester, participating in the Wisconsin in Washington D.C. Internship Program, and I am loving my time here! When I am not busy with class or working at my internship, I take advantage of all the amazing opportunities around me and explore the city. A few weeks ago, my roommate, another program participant, and I went to the Botanic Gardens. On the way, we walked past the Capitol building and the Capitol Reflecting Pool. No matter where you go in Washington D.C. you can always look around at the beautiful and historic buildings surrounding you. As we walked up to the Botanic Gardens, it was clear that we were at the building because the outside was decorated with a variety of different plants and beautiful flowers. The second we walked inside; I quite literally took a breath of fresh air. The entire building was full of plants, so the air was so crisp inside. The Botanic Garden hosts a variety of exhibits and different temperature-controlled rooms. I remember being blown away when walking through the various rooms and seeing the plant life change according to the climate. The entire time I was in the Botanic Garden, I felt super peaceful, and I will be going back throughout the rest of the semester.

I chose the Wisconsin in Washington program because it is a great combination of taking classes while also having a full-time internship. Plus, this program relates to my major, political science, along with my certificate in public policy.
