Denmark: Claudia Delgado (Top ten list: Copenhagen)

I have lived in Copenhagen for almost 3 months now! It’s crazy how fast time has flown by. I am using this blog entry as a way to reflect on my favorite places in Copenhagen, and celebrate the amazing memories I have made here thus far. Here are my top 11 places/things to do in Copenhagen:

1. Take a dip in the Nordhavn harbor bath

2. Louisiana Museum of Art

3. Hike Amarminoen: A 16 mile trail through Amager Strand (the southern island of Copenhagen) is surely the flattest hike experienced trekkers will ever go on, but it is a beautiful introduction to the city and unique natural landscape of Denmark. You might even stumble upon a troll…

A group of people sit on a giant wooden statue of a troll with a beard in the middle of a forest.

4. Dyrehaven and Bellevue Beach: spend an afternoon biking through Dyrehaven where you can get up close and personal to hundreds of wild deer. Then take the pristine trails straight to the beach at Bellevue for a beautiful view of the ocean and the historic wind turbines

5. Wander through the King’s Garden and Botanical Gardens (be sure to check out the butterfly house!)

6. Get amazing food and thrifting finds in Nørrebro: try everything from authentic Ethiopian food to delicious falafel to classic 7/11 French hot dogs

7. Explore the lakes and trails around Lyngby

8. Get classic Danish pastry (Spandauer and Cardamom buns are a fan favorite) at Hart Bakery in Frederiksberg and walk + eat your way to the Cisternerne: a contemporary underground art installation

9. Venture to the Nordvest neighborhood to see the Bispebjerg Cemetery and iconic minimalist Grundtvig’s Church

10. Rent a car and drive to Møns Klint- the classic cliffs in the south of Zealand

11. Take the train to Hillerød to see Fredriksborg Slot

These sights just offer a taste of what Copenhagen has to offer. It has been a pleasure to explore them, and an even greater joy to share them with new friends along the way.
