Singapore : Izzy Hartel (Top Ten List Singapore)

Top Ten List Singapore

Studying abroad in Singapore has been such an amazing adventure that I will cherish for a lifetime. In honor of my semester at the National University of Singapore coming to an end, I have compiled a list of things you absolutely must see or do if the opportunity presents itself. Without further ado, here is my personal Top Ten list of things to do in Singapore:

A black bowl filled with thin, stringy noodles and a variety of different toppings.
The best mala is found at Prince George’s Park Residences!

Enjoy the Local Cuisine

Singapore truly is a foodie’s paradise, for you can get nearly any cuisine you crave of great quality. The country boasts some of the best meals from Malaysia, Indonesia, India, China, and more. Country staples to try for sure: chicken rice, nasi lemak, nasi goreng, and mala (a personal favorite of mine).

Visit Palawan Beach to Swim and Look for Otters

Seriously! The adorable otters are everywhere.

Visit Tanjong Pagar

Check out the historic shophouse architecture while indulging in the area’s bustling nightlife and many food options.

Travel to Neighboring Countries

Singapore is conveniently located near so many amazing countries in Southeast Asia, so be sure to explore! Hop on a plane to Cambodia or simply take a ferry over to Malaysia!

A city full of lit-up skyscrapers sit in front of a sky full of fireworks at night.
National Day fireworks over Marina Bay Sands

Head to Marina Bay Sands to Watch Fireworks on National Day

Celebrate Singapore’s independence with tourists and locals alike by relaxing and watching some beautiful fireworks around the iconic Marina Bay Sands.

Learn One of Singapore’s Local Languages

Singapore has four national languages–Malay, Tamil, English, and Chinese, so take it as an opportunity to learn something new and connect with the locals!

Go Shopping!

Take a trip to one of Singapore’s many malls and shop until you drop! Bugis Junction and VivoCity are personal favorites of mine! The FairPrice Xtra at VivoCity is like a grocery shopping wonderland that I will miss immensely upon my departure.

A brick path is surrounded by patches of grass and trees.
The beautiful Clementi Park

Stroll Through Clementi Park

Take in Singapore’s beautiful flora while stopping to smell the roses at the underrated Clementi Park

Spend the Day at Universal Studios

A glass with a paper straw filled with matcha.
Yummy matcha at Hvala

Need I say more? Let your inner child run free as you explore all the crazy rides and roller coasters.

Sip on Matcha at Hvala

Located in Tanjong Pagar, Hvala has some of the best matcha I have ever had and has some delicious sweet treats to choose from as well. Best part is that the matcha is all natural, so it’s the real deal.
