How were your program academics similar or different from taking classes at UW-Madison?
This program’s academics were quite different from those I have taken at UW-Madison. On the program our primary learning came from first hand experiences. We visited hospitals, health care centers, farms, and more. We also got to take control on what we were learning by asking questions related to our own topics of interest. I really enjoyed how the program was set up and came home with more knowledge than I imagined.
Spend time looking outside where the scenery is so unique, eat as much local food as you can. Try new things! The results you achieve from this program will directly correlate with the effort you invest in it.
How will your experience benefit you in the future? How might it affect your future career or studies?
This study abroad program experience was truly incredible and I believe it really helped me evolve as a person. In the future I want to work in the healthcare field and I think its important to have a broad understanding of cultures and various ways of life. One things I particularly took out of this experience is the effect that diet can have on preventing diseases. I hope to further incorporate nutrition with healthcare when helping patients in the future.

What is your advice for someone considering your program?
My advice for someone considering this program is to utilize your time in Uganda. Ask as many questions as you can, and not only to the program leaders, but to people in the community as well. Spend time looking outside where the scenery is so unique, eat as much local food as you can. Try new things! The results you achieve from this program will directly correlate with the effort you invest in it.
