Daily Life in Singapore

Hello, and thanks for tuning in for a Day in the Life Singapore edition blog post! The National University of Singapore program has been nothing short of amazing, and I am excited to share with you an average school day in the Lion City!
Every morning, I like to take the opportunity to walk down to my dorm’s hawker center (synonym for foodcourt; found all over Singapore varying in size and shape) to visit the local bodega and grab an iced coffee. From there, I take a quick bus ride through campus and enter my first lecture at about 8:30 am. The nice part about the university here is class only meets once a week, for about 3 hours, giving me the rest of the week to study and perform other activities.

After finishing classes around 3 pm, I go back to my dormitory, change into some gym shoes, and grab a quick bite to eat. My preference is a 2.25$ Hainanese chicken rice dish (Singapore staple) that gives me just enough energy to visit the gym at the university center and swim a few laps in the outdoor lap pool.
This takes me usually to about 6 pm, which is perfect timing to hop on the MRT (transit system) down closer to the city and visit a hawker center of my liking. The MRT system here is like no other, seamless, clean, and quick. On this day of my life, I decided to go to the Chinatown Hawker Center and visit my favorite stall to have some mouthwatering Szechuan spicy dumplings (as seen below). I enjoy this 3$ meal with friends and soak in the perfect weather as the sunsets over Marina Bay, taking in the skyline before I head home to get ready for another day!

Being a Global Gateway Fellow is a great honor to represent both the fellowship and the university. I am ecstatic to continue to grow as a student abroad and am extremely appreciative of the resources given by the fellowship to support this dream. I look forward to giving back to the program to the best of my ability this spring.
A professional goal I have abroad is to further my interest in ESG-related investment research and related practices. My professional career thus far has been dedicated to sustainability and I look forward to learning more in what is known as the most sustainable city in the world. I look forward to learning and understanding the deep cultural history of Singapore and surrounding regions. I am truly excited to be exposed to an area of such diverse backgrounds and look to be a sponge to this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
