A Food Lover’s Guide to Canberra Cuisine

When you hear Australian cuisine, your mind might first think of Vegemite, the infamous Australian food spread. Canberra has more than politics and nature but also boasts a vibrant food scene. The Capital city truly has a lot to offer with a diverse food scene that caters to all tastes, especially if you love coffee. One standout moment during my time here was enjoying a beautifully crafted cup of coffee at a cozy Canberra Cafe called The Cupping Room. Just look at this adorable latte art—a bear with a cute little bow, bringing an instant smile to my face before going to study for final exams.

Another one of my favorite spots to visit is a Japanese and Korean street food restaurant near my accommodation called Baby Su. This place offers a quirky, yet delightful dining experience with a menu consisting of bao bun burgers, soba noodle bowls, and my favorite, teriyaki salmon. Baby Su has become a perfect spot for a casual lunch with friends while preparing for end-of-year exams. An aspect of dining in Canberra I truly appreciate is the city’s focus on local ingredients and sustainable practices. Many restaurants source their produce from nearby farms, ensuring that the food is fresh and seasonal and only provide paper or wood cutlery for takeaway orders.

Canberra offers a food experience that is as warm and welcoming as its people. So, whether you’re here to see the sights or simply enjoy some delicious food and drink, the city’s cafes and restaurants will leave you with memories as satisfying as a cute bear in your latte!
