Australia: Kyree Cooke (Final Reflections)
Unforgettable Connections in Canberra
Studying abroad at ANU in Canberra has been transformative. Being in an environment that blends academic rigor with a unique cultural experience has broadened my perspective in so many ways. The diversity on campus and the academic resources available allowed me to explore my field of study deeply while gaining insight into global viewpoints. Navigating life in a different country, adapting to a new academic system, and embracing a different culture have all contributed to my personal growth.

Canberra’s mix of nature, history, and a strong student community has created a perfect backdrop for learning and reflection. A standout memory I have from this program experience would have to be the incredible people I met during my time abroad. I remember stepping off the plane and arriving at my accommodation, filled with nerves and questions—wondering what the culture would be like, or if I would get along with my roommates. Those initial worries quickly faded as my roommates helped me get acquainted with the place I would call home for the next few months. They showed me where the local mall was and helped me get necessities for my room for the first night. Since then, we have shared meals and late-night laughs, making these connections the highlight of my time abroad.
These connections not only eased my transition into a new country but also opened my mind to different ways of thinking and living. Looking back, I realize that it was the people who truly made this experience memorable. They turned Canberra from a foreign place into a second home and transformed a few months of study into a lifelong set of cherished memories.
