How will your experience benefit you in the future? How might it affect your future career or studies?

After studying abroad, I have a fresh outlook on life – where I want to go, what I want to do, and how I want to make a change. Denmark welcomed me with open arms, and I am lucky to walk away knowing I will be back one way or another. In the future, I hope to work with sustainable technology or UI/UX development, bridging the gap between users and information, in either furthering my education or in the industry.

From their sustainable practices, healthy food habits, and love for a good time spent with family and friends, you will find yourself more than happy in Copenhagen.

What is the moment you are most proud of?

In the first few weeks of my arrival to Copenhagen, I ran into some pretty severe health problems that landed me in the hospital for a little over a week. I had just begun making friends, was missing big social events, and had no idea what to do/where I was. Even though this time in my study abroad program was when I felt at my lowest, it taught me how much I am capable of no matter how challenging. I was supported through that tough time by people from back home, but also my incredible roommates and now best friends abroad. It gave me an inside look into what healthcare/hospitals look like in Denmark, and taught me so much about my body and health. As much as it felt like my time in Copenhagen was ruined at the time, that health scare showed me strength, perseverance, and brought me a sense of confidence that could not have come from anywhere else.

What is your most memorable experience from your program?

One of the most memorable experiences from my program is volunteering at Studenterhuset, or a community/student-run café in the city center. Whether I was volunteering behind the counter, in the kitchen, or helping run events, it was a blast meeting new people from all different backgrounds and helping build a space for students from no matter where feel at home in Copenhagen.

What is your advice for someone considering your program?

The University of Copenhagen is not only one of the best universities in the WORLD, but Denmark as a country is an incredible place to live. From their sustainable practices, healthy food habits, and love for a good time spent with family and friends, you will find yourself more than happy in Copenhagen. You can make it happen – even though the work may seem daunting to get there, your future self will look back with gratitude that you invested in yourself in such an impactful, lasting way.
