How were your program academics similar or different from taking classes at UW-Madison?

My program focused on arts and Italian culture courses, which as an Engineering student, is very different from the coursework I typically take. This provided me with a chance to step outside my technical background and experience a new way of learning. I enjoyed the small classes, which offered both hands-on activities and personal connections with professors. It also pushed me to engage with the local culture in ways I wouldn’t have otherwise.

What is your most memorable experience from your program?

The SRISA farewell gala was the most memorable part of my experience. Set in a palace garden, the event gave us a beautiful space to reflect on the friendships we formed and the lessons we learned. Celebrating with professors and friends through food, music, and laughter made it even more meaningful.

What is a custom, food or tradition from your host country that you are taking forward?

One of my favorite parts of daily life was experiencing Italy’s café culture, where people took time to truly slow down. It was common to see locals building community, reading, or writing by hand, with hardly any electronics in sight. I hope to carry this slower, more intentional way of connecting in local coffee shops into my life at home.
