England: Kyra Northway (Places: Routine and Favorite)

Hello from London! I’ve only been here six days, so everything still feels pretty new and exciting. I haven’t even started classes yet, but I’ve already gotten a sense of what my daily routine will look like—and it will definitely involve he Tube. Back home at Madison, I could walk to class in 15 ten minutes. But here? It’s a whole journey. I take the Tube, then hop on a bus to get to school, for a total time of 40 minutes one way—which I’ve been told is actually pretty good for London. While it’s not what I’m used to, there’s something cool about being part of the city’s rhythm—watching people rush to work, hearing the announcements through the tunnels, and figuring out which line actually gets me where I need to go. I’m still getting the hang of it, but it’s already a huge part of my day.
As for my favorite place I’ve visited in my short time here, it would have to be the Covent Garden part of London. I went once and the vibe was just amazing. There is music, street performers, cute shops, and food from any cuisine you can think of. Not to mention the blend of old and modern architecture makes for super cool views. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and just take it all in. While I’ve only been there one time, I can’t wait to go back, maybe catch a show or just wander around again. It feels exactly like what people think of when they think of London—fun, creative, and full of surprises.

One of my goals I have while attending this program is to grow a global network. Whether that be professional/business connections, or friendships with fellow students across the globe, I hope to be able to meet new people, which will help shape my remaining college career and beyond. I look forward to learning about the history of London! London is such a historic city filled with so much cultural influence and I hope to learn more about it while I’m there.
