Richmond Park was a calming experience that transported me back to the comfort of Northern Wisconsin. It offered a deep peace and tranquility that removed the usual bustle and noise of London life. As I walked along the expansive green space, the air carried a refreshing, earthy, and clean embrace that reconnected me to a feeling of home.

  • Sight: The vast park and rolling hills are reserved yet dramatic, supporting a cinematic countryside illustration. However, the most striking image in the park is the swarms of deer that slowly graze through the grass.
  • Smell: The park smells crisp and fresh. Nearby marshes waft notes of mud and algae, but the damp soil, moss, and crunching leaves are welcome reminders of the picturesque fall weather.
  • Feel: Despite the mid-November cold spells and frost, the ground is not frozen for the winter. An angry, cold wind bellows, stinging my fingertips and ears.
  • Sound: London is no stranger to the piercing whistle of cold winds, but the song of birds chirping was a much-appreciated change. A careful ear can hear a family of parakeets overhead, and I relished the sound of woodpeckers, kestrels, and other waterfowl.
  • Taste: A freshly made fruit smoothie paired with a slice of chocolate cake was a rare treat. Berry smoothies became a weekend staple in my family for years, and it’s something I am looking forward to when I return home for the winter holidays.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Richmond and look forward to exploring more of the park and city on future excursions.
